More Housing Options Is Good For All In Bury St Edmunds

The demand for homes across the country, and in Bury St Edmunds, means that new homes are always welcome. At Coakley & Theaker, we are well-placed to help existing homeowners sell their homes, and we have many buyers looking for property in the local area.

The news that 171 homes are coming to Bury St Edmunds thanks to new work by Weston Homes is good news for prospective buyers in the local area. However, it can also be good news for existing homeowners looking to sell.

Movement creates movement in housing market

The new development may provide you with a home you wish to move to. After all, there will be one, two and three-bedroom homes in the six apartment buildings on the Tayfen Road site. This creates movement in the market, which is positive for the whole community.

There is also a benefit for buyers looking at the area. It might be that prospective buyers decide this new development isn’t right for them, but they want to find a home in the local area. This creates a market for existing homes, and if you want to sell, we can connect you with these buyers.

The new development has 147 car parking spaces, and cycle storage is part of the development too.

A design and access statement submitted to West Suffolk Council said: "The proposed development will breathe new life into this underused former gas holder site. The buildings have been carefully designed to respect the views to the heritage assets of Burlingham Mill and St John’s Church as well as the local vernacular architecture to create a strong sense of place and to enhance the developing character that is being created around the Station Hill and Tayfields development areas."

More than just homes

This isn’t the first submission of plans for his area. A 2016 plan included a family pub and convenience store. The new project will have a ground-floor shop, but the pub is no longer part of the plan.

The application states; “The size of the commercial unit has been designed to accommodate a convenience retailer to serve the local catchment and would thus meet the day to day needs of those in the vicinity which at the time of submission is currently absent from the locality.”
