The news that 171 homes are coming to Bury St Edmunds thanks to new work by Weston Homes is good news for prospective buyers in the local area. However, it can also be good news for existing homeowners looking to sell.

A design and access statement submitted to West Suffolk Council said: "The proposed development will breathe new life into this underused former gas holder site. The buildings have been carefully designed to respect the views to the heritage assets of Burlingham Mill and St John’s Church as well as the local vernacular architecture to create a strong sense of place and to enhance the developing character that is being created around the Station Hill and Tayfields development areas."
This isn’t the first submission of plans for his area. A 2016 plan included a family pub and convenience store. The new project will have a ground-floor shop, but the pub is no longer part of the plan.
The application states; “The size of the commercial unit has been designed to accommodate a convenience retailer to serve the local catchment and would thus meet the day to day needs of those in the vicinity which at the time of submission is currently absent from the locality.”
