Boxing Day Bounce: Ready To Sell Your Home?

There is no denying the fact many people choose to sell their home in New Year. The beginning of the year sees many people turning over a new leaf, and making positive changes in their life. Some people will kickstart a fitness regime, other people will look to develop their career prospects. There will also be many people looking to move home, and it might be you are keen to experience a fresh start in 2020.

However, there is no need to wait until January to start preparing to sell your home. You will find a growing number of buyers begin their search in the week between Christmas and New Year. The emergence of online property portals has transformed the property market, making it easier than ever before for people to search for homes.

The end of the year is a busy time for agents and buyers

Zoopla has informed estate agents that they expect this time of year to be busy. The company says they expect to benefit from a 60% increase relating to month-on-month visitors, and an 80% increase in applicant and value leads from the festive period through to the New Year. There is also positive news from Rightmove in this regard. The company has previously stated they experience a 228% increase in page views for the week running from Boxing Day to New Years Day.

Andy Marshall is the Chief Commercial Officer at Zoopla, and he said; “Much like the perfect Christmas lunch, having a successful January for agents is all about preparation and getting as much as possible done in advance. Whether it’s the basics like having your stock and photography up to date and having enough staff to deal with enquiries, or something a little more complex like taking advantage of different online marketing tools, there are a number of quick and easy steps you can take. Either way, the opportunity is great and the rewards are there for the taking.”

Gain an advantage in the property market

If you plan on selling your home, you need to be in front of buyers. A lot of vendors will not consider selling their home until New Year. If you want to make the most of Christmas, you can do so, and start the sales process in January. However, as other vendors will take this approach, you have a chance to reach buyers when there is less competition. Therefore, if you can place your home on the market before the end of the year, you enhance your chances of connecting with the buyer.

Andy Marshall continued by saying; “We know from Boxing Day onwards people begin to think about the future. Whether that’s downsizing as kids have flown the nest, upsizing to meet the needs of a growing family, or a move to be closer to the grandkids, there are opportunities aplenty. There’s no better feeling than a winning start to the year, and here at Zoopla we are ready to support agents with everything they need to have a successful 2020.”
