Lockdown DIY Projects

It is crucial people deal with the lockdown in a way which is right for them. A lot of people are still working as normal and might be balancing their everyday activities with new practices. For others, there may be a lot more spare time to contend with.

If you like to relax and take things easy, this may sound like an ideal time to kick back and not do much. However, many people want to be active, and the lockdown might be the perfect opportunity to carry out some home improvements. DIY is a popular activity for many people, and it could be how you decide to utilise your free time at home.

There is no denying home improvements have a pivotal role to play in the house selling process. A survey carried out by Sell House Fast indicated 76% of potential buyers were put off by the appearance of stains, marks and cracks.

Of course, home improvements are prevalent. A study undertaken by the NAEA in 2019 found 98% of homeowners had made some improvements to their home in the previous five years. Redecorating was the most popular option, cited by 72% of respondents and then 40% of homeowners said they had improved their garden.

Home improvements bring a range of benefits

You don’t need to be in the process of selling your house to reap the benefits of working from home. Making your surroundings more palatable and agreeable is an excellent idea at the best of times. Also, many people appreciate working on a task and remaining active. When it comes to mental wellness, DIY projects are useful in many ways, so it is no surprise to hear a lot of people are keen to work in this manner.

Any homeowner who has DIY materials and equipment in their home will find this is the ideal time to start a new project. If you have been delaying DIY work, you might run out of excuses. However, if you are keen to start a new project but you don’t have the right sort of equipment at home, you will need to hit the shops or buy online.

DIY material is in high demand

Even though many hardware stores have temporarily closed, some of the major stores in the home improvement sector have remained open. Companies like B&Q have limited opening hours, but they are supporting their customers during the current situation.

Some of the social media comments from shoppers have warned of a two-hour waiting time just to enter the store. It also appears as though paint for fences and wooden surfaces are in short demand. While toilet paper was the product in high demand before the lockdown began, it looks as though a desire to paint your fence and improve the garden area has been a priority for people during the lockdown.

At Coakley & Theaker, we aim to support the local community as much as we can, and we know this is an extremely trying time. A lot of people are looking for support and guidance, and if you have any property or housing related questions, we are more than happy to assist you, so contact us today.
